Millions of viewers tuned in to watch the finale of Broadchurch this evening to finally find out who committed the rape of Trish Winterman. The puzzle which has been on the minds of the fans of the drama for two months.

The writer Chris Chibnall admitted that he didn’t even inform the cast members on how the series would end, so that all loose ends could be concealed until the dramatic finale.

The main suspects included Trish’s husband (from whom she split), Ian Winterman, her best friend’s husband, Jim Atwood, her boss, Ed Burnett, the local cab driver, Clive Lucas and also the manager of a rope and twine store, Leo Humphries. There, were however several other characters who fans believed could be the surprise culprit.

It has also been confirmed that this series of Broadchurch will also be the very last. Fans of the show were disappointed to hear of this news as it has been a huge hit on ITV over the past few years.

Yesterday, one viewer wrote “I can’t believe Broadchurch finishes for good tomorrow”.

Chris Chibnall himself was in tears when writing the final episode. “Sitting down to watch the final episode was very emotional. Hopefully there are some surprises. I think there is a sense of completion”.
