ZZZap! was a British children’s television comedy programme broadcast on ITV from 8th January 1993 through 21st September 2001. The concept of the show is a giant 18 ft comic book that has been brought to life.

Featuring characters such as The Handy Men, Smarty Arty and Daisy Dares. 90s kids loved coming home from school to watch the wacky happenings on the show each day.

Here we’re going to take a look at the main cast from the show and see what they’ve been up to and what they look like today. Be prepared for a shot of nostalgia!

Neil Buchanan (Smarty Arty)

Neil Buchanan portrayed French artist, Smarty Arty in ZZZap! from the outset until the end of series 7.

Since finishing his role with ZZZap! Buchanan has continued to work in the Artistic field as well as reform his rock band from back in the 1970’s.

From his own website he is described as being:
“An ambassador for the Prince’s Foundation for Children and the Arts and was presented to her Majesty the Queen who described his work as ‘ingenious’.

“As an artist, having now surpassed his lifelong ambition to create a cartoon character for Disney when they acquired the rights to his Art Attack format, he now spends most of his time painting and exhibiting his own art and photography.”
