Revealed: Coronation Street set to double in size with incredible expansion
ITV bosses are planning a huge overhaul of the show, doubling the size of the set including a new street
2017 is shaping up to be an exciting year for fans of ITV soap opera, Coronation Street.
The popular ITV show is set to undergo major changes this year, which will see it being screened six times a week, rather than four as it currently stands.
With more editions being planned per week, production chiefs have created plans to change the face of the soap forever.
Producers have applied for planning permission to increase the size of the current set by double, allowing for two scenes to be shot simultaneously.
Viewers could be welcomed to a whole host of new locations, including a court, a police station, a school and a shopping mall.
A second street is also in the works. Will fans finally get to see the mysterious Tile Street, that has been mentioned in the past?
An ITV spokesperson told Daily Star: “This is an extremely exciting development for the production team, cast, writers and crew.”
Users on Social Media commented on the plans, with users showing excitement: “Corrie getting bigger. Can only be a good thing for soap lovers”, one wrote.
“Coronation Street is expanding. I wonder if that means more roles in the show? hmmm”, added a hopeful actor, with a third writing “Cannot wait to see corry [sic] get bigger. Best soap on TV”.
