He topped the charts with the boy band Blue, and now Lee Ryan is testing his metal, as well as his acting chops, on the BBC’s flagship soap opera EastEnders.

However, Lee Ryan was mistakenly introduced as a Blue Peter presenter on this morning’s episode of..erm…This Morning, in an amusing gaffe by host Eamonn Holmes.

Viewers took to Twitter to revel in the jovial but embarrassing moment, and fortunately Lee Ryan also saw the funny side of it, and he could not stop laughing.

The mishap occurred as Ruth Langsford and Eamonn introduced the All Rise singer’s upcoming interview.

Eamonn teased, “Coming up next, Blue Peter star Lee Ryan!’ which prompted his wife Ruth to look at him in a perfect mixture of horror and confusion.

‘He’s not Blue Peter! He’s Blue!’ she scolded him.

The camera panned to Lee waiting on the sofa and chuckling to himself. He piped up: ‘I have a Blue Peter badge, though!’

Social media was awash with praise for the down-to-earthness of Lee’s response to the situation, with one viewer joking, ‘Hahaha Eamonn saying Lee Ryan is from blue peter #ThisMorning’, while another posted, ‘oh Eamonn!’.

Following the mix up, Ruth took charge in introducing their pop star guest.

With a pointed look at her husband, she said: “He is best known for topping the charts and breaking hearts with boy band Blue – not Blue Peter.”

Lee appeared on the show to discuss his new EastEnders role as Woody Woodward, who made his grand arrival in Albert Square on Tuesday.

He said: ‘He’s not a bad boy. He’s more sensitive, you’ll see as his journey continues. He just wants to be liked.’

‘He’s met with hostility straight away. Shirley is not having any of it. Every which way he turns, he just can’t do it right!’

The mistake was laughed off by all/ ITV

The former CBB star went on to explain that he had first been offered the part in the BBC One soap as a youngster, even before signing with Blue.

His bandmates Simon Webbe and Duncan James have also landed soap acting roles, something that Lee finds amusing.

Lee enthused: ‘We’re the soap band! We’re going to get our own brand of soap.’

When quizzed about who was the best actor out of the three, Lee unashamedly declared ‘Oh, ME!’

The star was also quizzed about filming with soap favourite Danny Dyer, who plays the gruff landlord Mick Carter.

Lee said ‘I love Danny; I was really looking forward to working with him. There was only a short time that we got to act together but it’s all done now. We’ve got some great scenes.’
