Eamonn Holmes has come under fire from ITV’s This Morning viewers after he refused to shake the hand of a guest on the show because he had suffered from Bed Bugs whilst on a holiday to Tenerife.

Kevin McMahon appeared on the show to open up about his horror holiday ordeal after he found rashes all over his body and was led to believe they were due to over exposure to the sun. However on his final night he found a host of creepy crawlies swarming his bed.

Fans of the show became enraged when stand-in host Eamonn Holmes solemnly refused to shake his hand for fear he may ‘catch’ the itch.

Cat and a host of others took to Twitter to condemn the Irish host, writing: “Why didn’t Eamon shake the guys hand! Are bed bugs contagious!! Why is he so ignorant, he is so old fashioned and just not up with the times”

Barbara added: “Eamonn should have shaken the guys hand! You can’t catch bed bugs shaking hands. Eamon you need to move with the times!!”

While Angel fumed: “Did he just say he wasn’t gonna shake hands with the guest because of his bites?”

Eamonn Holmes and wife Ruth Langsford are holding the fort for usual suspects Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield while the pair take a well deserved break.

This isn’t the first time that Holmes has been criticised by viewers. Recently he was labelled ‘vile’ and ‘rude’ for comments he made to a young child suffering with Cancer. The host suggested the boy come back “when he has hair”, which went down like a lead balloon.

Take a look at the clip below. Would you shake Kevin’s hand?
