Former Eastenders actress Leanne Lakey was caught smuggling three kilos of drugs through Gatwick airport, the court heard.
Lakey, who played the role of Belinda Peacock in the soap between 2001-2003 aimed to smuggle £150,000 worth of drugs through security. The actress from Chelmsford, Essex, who also played Charlotte Day in Channel 5’s Family Affairs, will return for a three-day trial on December 18.
The actress trained at Arts Educational School in Chiswick, West London, and has also appeared in the TV series Casualty, New Tricks, The Bill and Holby City.
Lakey is known for being one of the first actresses to star in two soaps at the same time, while appearing in both EastEnders and Family Affairs.
She was accused alongside 47 year-old Dean Shanahan, with claims they were working together. Reportedly, Shanahan stashed the cocaine at the bottom of his suitcase.
However, the pair pleaded not guilty to the offence of aiming to smuggle Class A drugs past security, which occurred on 12th December 2016.
The judge has agreed that both will will be granted bail before their trial on 18th December this year.
Whilst they are both allowed to live and sleep at their own addresses, Shanahan has a 10pm-7am curfew; whilst Lakey has been allowed to visit Bedford on the occasion to visit her boyfriend who lives there.
Both Lakey and Shanahan were bailed on condition they reside at their recorded addresses and Shanahan must obey an electronically-tagged curfew between 10pm and 7am.
Lacey will also be allowed to stay at her boyfriend’s flat.
The character of Belinda recently returned to Eastenders, however Lakey has been replaced by another actress as of 2016.
