Sir David wrote:

“I heard about John’s death whilst on holiday in Florida and so driving back through Miami brought back all the memories of Miami Twice and the fun we’d had over there.

Then to get back to the UK and see so many wonderful tributes in the press, brought it home again to me what a great friend I had lost.

Being at his funeral was like being in the wrong scene in the wrong script – it shouldn’t have been happening. What a sad, sad day for his family, his friends, the entire cast and crew of Only Fools, not to mention the other shows he had so skilfully crafted.

Thanks for all the laughs John.

You really made a difference to our lives.

Sir David Jason”.

Del Boy will return to screens in 2017 as Gold look back on the series with the first original Only Fools and Horses material since 2014.

Sir David Jason will front the documentary series, titled The Story Of Only Fools And Horses.

He said: “It has taken a lot of persuasion for me to take part in an official documentary about Only Fools And Horses.

“But, as time has gone on, it seems to have been imprinted in television history and I thought it was only right that I tried to give an accurate insight into how the show was put together.

“In doing so, I hope we can create a definitive programme which appeals to the many fans which have been the stalwarts of the show and are growing with the next generation. It should be fun!”
