The 58-year-old singer-songwriter tumbled down the stairs of the stage after a dancer tried to remove the cape she wore. Madonna graciously regained her composure however and continued to perform her song, Living For Love.
After the unfortunate event, the iconic performer issued a statement later saying she was “fine” and that her cape had been “tied too tight”.
“Nothing can stop me and love really lifted me up,” she wrote on Instagram, referencing the lyrics to her song. “Thanks for your good wishes!”
The embarrassing incident came at the end of a ceremony which Ed Sheeran and Sam Smith will be throughly remembered for, winning two awards each.
Viewing figures for the ITV broadcast averaged at 5.3 million, rising to 5.8 million when ITV+1 viewers are added in. Not forgetting the countless views on ITV Player and, of course, YouTube once the clip had gone viral.
The Brit Awards returns to screens Wednesday at 7:30pm on ITV 1 and ITV 1 HD, with a series of performers including Katy Perry who will make her first appearance in Britain for three years.
Other performances include Ed Sheeran, Robbie Williams, Bruno Mars, The 1975, Little Mix, Emeli Sandé and Skepta.
Of her inclusion as a performer at The Brit Awards, 32-year-old Katy Perry said: “I’m excited to come back to one of my favourite countries, where most of my favourite musical influences come from. After 3 years, I’m excited to return to the BRITs’ stage to kick off a new era of purposeful pop.”
