Peter Kay’s Car Share will be back for a second series
Bolton comedian, Peter Kay has confirmed that his vehicle-based sitcom, Car Share will return for a second series.
Here is a look at everything you need to know about the show thus far, to ensure your knowledge is up to scratch for when the second series hits screens.
Peter Kay’s Car Share made its debut in April 2015 on BBC iPlayer. The comedy series formed part of a new BBC trial to premiere 40 hours of content on iPlayer, before being broadcast on TV.
The series, when released on iPlayer, brought in viewing figures of over 2.8m, with episode one pulling in 1 million alone.
Car Share made its television debut on April 29th 2015 at 9:30pm, and had a mouthwatering 6.85 million viewers. Kay’s reward for the comedy came in 2016, when the show won the best scripted comedy award at the BAFTAS.
Kay performs as John Redmond, a supermarket manager, with Gibson playing the part of ditsy supermarket worker, Kayleigh Kitson.
The shows popularity is largely down to the on-screen chemistry between real-life close friends Peter Kay and Sian Gibson and perfectly executed observational comedy. The series deals with everyday occurrences when driving, including singing at the wheel and road rage as well as poking fun at jargon used in management.
Series two of the popular sitcom has completed its principal photography and will air on BBC iPlayer in its entirety in May 2017, before following up on BBC One a few days later.
The second series will consist of just four episodes, two short of series one. During a live Q&A in December 2016, Peter had never-before-seen clips of Car Share playing on a big screen, some of which appeared in a feature-length Comedy Shuffle on BBC One on Christmas Eve.
The second series has been filmed in more locations than the first, with places such as Southport and Burnley added to the roster. Kay has been spotted all over the North West donning his characters uniform.
Fans are to expect a run in with a cyclist in one episode, as images were snapped of John arguing with a two-wheeled menace. Kay has also been spotted driving a Monster truck, leading fans to believe there will be a scene filmed away from the Fiat 500L.
Series one ended with Kayleigh and John growing closer together, with the chance of romance on the cards. Is this a hint that in series two the pair will hit it off as more than just car-sharers, or will they find love elsewhere?
In an interview about the second series, Kay explained: “What a joy to be working on the second series of Car Share with the wonderful Sian Gibson. The success of the first series has been completely overwhelming.”
Co-star, Sian Gibson added: “I’m really excited that Car Share is coming back. We had so much fun making the first series and I can’t wait to be Kayleigh Kitson again.”
