Star Wars Episode VIII release date and title confirmed

Lucasfilm have spilled the beans on the next instalment to the Star Wars franchise.

The eighth chronological movie has been confirmed, with the full title and cinematic release date.

In a twitter post the company revealed that Episode VIII will be titled ‘The Last Jedi’.

In an interview in early January, director Rian Johnson said The Last Jedi would focus on Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill). What Luke has been up to since his disappearance will be the main question that Johnson will explore.

“I’m approaching it with a take that I hope feels honest and real and is going to be interesting to folks and make sense,” Johnson explained.

The Last Jedi continues from Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which ended with Rey finding Luke Skywalker on Ahch-To. In the novelisation of the movie, it’s revealed Ahch-To is home of the first Jedi Temple. The novelisation marks the first time the planet is mentioned in the Star Wars universe.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi will be released worldwide on Dec. 15, 2017.
