Prestwich-born comedian Victoria Wood played a crucial role in Peter Kay’s career, the star revealed.
Peter Kay is quoted as saying that without Victoria Wood, he doesn’t believe he’d have had such a fruitful career.
Speaking to fellow Boltonian, Sara Cox on her BBC Radio 2 breakfast show, Kay shared some thoughts on his career and Wood’s work, ahead of the television premiere of the second series of Car Share.
Kay said: “What’s mad is tonight, she’s on after us and what’s weird is I genuinely think that I would not be doing what I’m doing if it weren’t for her.
“It’s weird how everything works out because there’s so many lines in car share that are just not lifted from her stuff, but you know it’s so much an influence when I was growing up watching her, seeing her on tv.”
The comic and TV personality spoke fondly about his school days and classmates coming in and chatting about a new episode of the show.
He added: “It’s crazy how much of an influence she’s had, like rhythmically, you don’t realise.”
Peter Kay’s Car Share returned to television screens Tuesday, on BBC One at 9pm. All four episodes of the second series are available online now on BBC iPlayer.
