Will.i.am slated for ‘scripted’ Voice Stunt by Angry viewers
Fans took to social media to complain after they believed the former Black Eyed Peas singer deliberately pressed his button too hard, so that it activated and turned him around.
Lawrence Hill from Hertfordshire was performing his audition for the talent competition when the ‘accident’ occurred. [Scroll down for video]
The 25-year-old hopeful was coming to the end of his song when Will, who was rubbing ink off his button, pressed too hard and proceeded to turn around.
Will looked shocked, but fans grew suspicious that it was all scripted to generate views and a talking point.
Awkwardly explaining what happened, Will said: “Check this out, sometimes magical things happen. Before you went on I drew a face. I realised there was a smudge on it.
“I pushed down on the button harder than I should… but he is pretty dope though! I believe in destiny. But destiny is also a destination. I was really cleaning off the button.”
Lawrence replied: “Energies that we can’t control are in control at the moment,” before Jennifer Hudson added: “I don’t know about that, but your coach is crazy.”
“I’ve never felt so insulted yet happy at the same time in my entire life! I’m going to prove to him that I deserve a place on that team,” said Lawrence.
One viewer tweeted: “Sorry are we supposed to believe this bulls**t… it’s so scripted”
“#TheVoice Pretending to press the button by accident – one of the worst scripted ‘ideas’ ever seen on this show.” posted another.
A third added: “Scripted or not scripted that was CRUEL.”
Tom Jones tweeted: “Smooth comeback @iamwill ! You deserve your place in the show fair and square @lawrencehmusic, well done.”
The Voice continues on ITV 1, Saturday nights at 8pm.
