UPDATE: Zlatan WINS EFL Cup for Manchester United with 26th goal of the season at Wembley
Zlatan Ibrahimovic scored the opening goal in the EFL Cup Final between Manchester United and Southampton from around 25 yards, with a wonderfully struck freekick.
However things could have been very different after the Saints striker Manolo Gabbiadini were denied a perfectly legal goal, with the offside flag being wrongly waved.
Zlatan’s goal takes him to 25 for the season, which is more than any other Manchester United player has scored individually since Robin Van Persie in the title winning 2012/13 season.
Jesse Lingard made it 2-0 after a wonderful move was capped off with a cool finish, but just on the stroke of half time, Manolo Gabbiadini made it four goals in three appearances for the Saints by scoring to make it 2-1 after earlier having a goal ruled out wrongly for offside.
Early in the second half, Manolo Gabbiadini scored his second of the game to level proceedings, but in the 87th minute, Zlatan Ibrahimovic scored the decisive goal to secure victory for Manchester United with a fantastic headed goal from an Ander Herrera cross.
